Viscount Legend 70's Compact Stage Piano
At NAMM 2020, Viscount announced a new kind of electric piano. After the success of the Viscount Legend Stage Organ, it now has become fime for an electric stage piano, introducing the Legend 70's series.
The Viscount Legend 70's Compact Stage Piano is the lightest and most mobile variant of the 70's Stage Pianos series. The Compact has 73 weighted keys, emulating the authentic Fender Rhodes feel. Unique with this instrument is that it's completely modular. There are a number of empty module slots, with which you can expand the device's sounds and functionality. When purchasing the Viscount Legend 70's Compact, you get two of these modules already pre-installed: Electric piano and Sound collection. The electric piano module contains several Rhodes, Wurlitzer and CP80 sounds, all based on physical modeling. This guarantees the most realistic sound, without the loss of quality associated with the more traditional sampling. The Sound Collection module consists of high definition samples from various vintage pads, strings and string machines, brass and synths, keyboards and pianos, organs, guitars, bells, and an 'other' group. With the three parameter knobs you can adjust parameters such as attack, decay, release, filter cutoff frequency, FX send, FX rate, FX depth, number of drawbars, rotary speed of the Lesley emulation, percussion and vibrato.
Each module of the Viscount Legend 70's Compact Stage Piano can also be played simultaneously, with (for most modules) two sounds each. This is exactly the same concept as integrated in Clavia's famous Nords. The Legend Compact, however, has a much deeper touch, and of course the earlier described option to easily install additional modules.
On the Main panel you'll find a three-band EQ, an extensive reverb section, including rooms, halls, stages, plates, springs and tapes, and a versatile FX section, with Phaser, Flanger, Chorus, Tremolo, Wah, Amps , Delays and Other Effects. These can be adjusted with a tempo tap knob, or to the MIDI clock of the instrument. Each effect has an amount and rate knob to tweak the sound of the Legend in great detail. Combinations of two effects and the reverb are also possible, allowing you to fine tune with the greatest nuance for your performance situation.
The connecting options with this Viscount are also very extensive. There is room for a sustain pedal, a program switch pedal, two foot switches and two expression pedals: no less than six pedals! In addition, there are four jack outputs, a mini jack input, a USB to host and to device, and a MIDI out and input. This instrument is clearly designed to master any stage situation, and at an unprecedented price for this class!
For now, Viscount distributes three other modules: one for acoustic pianos, one for clavinets and a final External control module. The External control module is used to use the Viscount Legend 70's as a master keyboard. So you can connect your computer or hardware synths and control its parameters using this module. We expect more modules to follow soon. The Legend Compact has space for four modules, two of which are included in the box. You cannot use them all at the same time. However, you can on the larger Legend 70's Artist, with 88 weighted wooden keys! The difference between the two is that the Compact is aimed at emulating the Rhodes, while the Artist is more like a full-fledged digital piano. By the way, they are identical.
