Yamaha MODX8+ - 88 Keys Synthesizer

The MODX was introduced in September 2018 and was modeled after their top-of-the-line MONTAGE workstation keyboards. However, it was able to achieve a much lower price point by using different materials (plastics rather than metals) and cutting back on memory, ins and outs, and other 'pro' luxury features to produce keyboards that, to the naked eye, performed the same function but caused significantly less wallet shock.
A benefit for gigging musicians everywhere was that these keyboards were also significantly more portable (for those without a vehicle and roadies).

The MODX+ again makes a big deal out of its multi-functional Super Knob, which helps make up for the smaller amount of physical controls compared to the massive MONTAGE range. However, the MODX+ hardly skimps here, as it also includes a full touchscreen and four assignable knobs and faders.

Once more, the sound on board is AWM2 sample-based (the MONTAGE is renowned for its one keyboard that can play everything, including symphony, trumpets, and pianos), plus enhanced FM-X for FM synth tones from the original creators of the instrument.

The major enhancements take the form of more RAM, which brings the new models much closer to their top-tier brothers. More space for your own samples and preset libraries is now available thanks to the 1.75GB internal flash memory. That represents a 75% increase over the current MODX.

And because MODX uses full 128-note stereo, there is also polyphony that rivals MONTAGE. With 13 dual insert effects and three additional Master effects to add to the output, your performance won't be hampered while you cue up your next solo thanks to Seamless Sound Switching.

Through the free FM converter available at YamahaSynth.com, this new "little brother" is even fully compatible with MONTAGE, MOTIF XF/XS, MOXF, and even vintage retro DX and TX FM-based sounds.

All of this is fantastic, however the rumored AN-X synthesis is nowhere to be found (based on their cult classic, but woefully under-loved AN1x analogue synth tech from 1997). Rumor-mongers linked AN-presence X's in the MODX+ to a recent trademark filing for the product. Actually, no. or, at the very least, not yet.

Once more, there are three alternative sizes to take into account, each of which offers the same performance and abilities but with progressively larger keys and feel.
A 61-semi-weighted synth-style deck is available on the MODX6+. For those who require the additional arm space for splits and layers, the MODX7+ extends the same keyboard to 76 keys. While the MODX8+ at the top of the stack goes above and above with 88 graded hammer keys for a genuine piano-style touch.
