Guild D55

The Guild D-55 was first introduced as a top-of-the-line special order in 1968 and was so well received that Guild put it into regular production in 1974. Made famous by Tommy Smathers on the Smathers Brothers show in the 1960s, the D-55 has gained both popularity and longevity over the decades, and has been used by more contemporary artists such as Waylon Jennings, Billie Joe Armstrong and David Nail at Home. passed into the hands of the artist. Guild Acoustics' most anticipated return, the 2017 Guild D-55, is back and better than ever. The D-55 stays true to all the premium specs of its 1968 predecessor, including the AAA Sitka spruce top, solid Indian rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and nitrocellulose finish. Internal refinements include scalloped Adyronduck bracing and an improved dovetail neck joint, making this generation of his D-55 the lightest, loudest, and best-sounding to date. The D-55 features Guild's most iconic headstock. It is fully bound and features a combination of Guild's 'Peak and Shield' inlays on grained ebony overlays. The matching ebony fingerboard is also fully bound and inlaid with Guild's iconic abalone/pearl "V-blocks" and multiple rows of "track" inlays on the bass and treble sides. The D-55 fingerboard sits atop an all-mahogany neck with a beautiful walnut center seam that runs from the heel to the headstock. Her Nitro finish on the D-55 is available in Natural or Antique Burst. Hand her sprayed to minimize thickness and maximize resonance. An LR Baggs pickup system is available as an option, and each guitar comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity and comes with a Guild Premium Wet Hard Case.
