Synth lovers unite: the Arturia PolyBrute is here! The PolyBrute makes polyphonic analog synthesis more accessible than ever before. It is a six-voice synthesizer with 2 VCOs and one sub-oscillator. You can send the VCOs individually in series or parallel to two filters. There is a Steiner filter (-12dB) and a Ladder filter. The Steiner filter offers the choice between high- or low-pass, notch and band. In addition, this filter has the now infamous Brute Factor feedback button, for extra bite, growl and nastiness. The Ladder filter (-24dB) is a Moog-inspired filter with resonance and overdrive functionality. After both filters, the Arturia PolyBrute offers the option to shape the overall sound with an additional master cutoff filter. In addition to subtractive synthesis, the PolyBrute also has a built-in FM synthesis button. It modulates the Steiner filter with the Ladder filter, and the Ladder filter with the noise generator.
Where the PolyBrute distinguishes itself from other synths is the virtually unseen shaping and modulation functionality. It starts with the three envelopes. These can also be repeated to function as additional LFOs. There is an envelope for the filters, an envelope for the amplifier, and a freely assignable envelope via the modulation matrix. With that modulation matrix you can assign the countless 'sources' to as many as 32 different destinations. This way you create the most lively, organic and moving sounds. Sources for that modulation include keyboard touch and aftertouch, two expression pedals, the three-dimensional X-Y-Z Morphee controller, the morph wheel, and the touch-sensitive Ribbon Controller. Outside of the sources, the modulation matrix can be controlled via the three LFOs, synchronizable to the master clock… As it should be! On top of that, the Arturia PolyBrute has a morph button, which allows you to switch between two completely different modulation setups within the same patch, with different sources and or destinations… Anything is possible!
After you've designed the craziest sounds, you can send them through an effects section with chorus, phaser, flanger, delays, reverbs and more. Of course, these effects are the morphs and can be controlled from the modulation matrix. In addition, the Arturia PolyBrute has an extensive Sequencer and Arpeggiator section. At the rear of the instrument we find connections for two expression pedals and a sustain pedal, a physical memory protect button, connections for MIDI in-out and thru, USB-B, two master out jacks (L,M/R), and a sync in and out.
